Metal Thru-Hull Fittings

Metal Thru-Hull Fittings - 06/10/19 11:50 PM

Changing out the drain thru hulls on my Phoenix and wanting to hear from folks that have swapped the plastic fittings out for stainless with a brass nut or chrome plated bronze and if they've held up OK. These would all be below the water line. Is it mainly because of corrosion caused by the wiring that most manufacturers don't recommend the metallic fittings below the water line? The current fittings are T-H Marine chrome plated plastic and they're starting to crack.

I would keep with the plastic. They last long enough and they’re protected by the pad step.

the white plastic ones seem more durable.

never heard of not using metal below the water line

I replaced all mine with SS metal ones, can’t speak to longevity because it’s only been 2 years. I’ll never use a plastic one again though.
