Nice fish. I saw Dannie posted it on facebook the other day. Congrats to the Casey. cheers I tried for awhile on Saturday but gave up. The only thing I caught was a cold. However, I had similar day last year in the same type of weather. Those smallmouth / meanmouth seem to show out in bad weather.

The way the lake is producing this hybrid strain of bass, I would expect it to kick out a couple of records all in that ball park. I spend ALOT of time at ray rob. People are catching these hybridized mean mouth frequently. I'm sure we will see how big they get

Wish they would migrate south to Lewisville. The spots don't get very good size here

So has it been determined if this is a pure strain smallie or the hybrid cross with a spot?

I think a cross between a smallmouth and a spot. Or this is what the article suggests I am just guessing.

DNA testing shouldn't take long if its yet to be determined.

Submitted as 100 percent small mouth then they changed it to mean mouth. The previous two mean mouth records both had taken fin clips for dna verification. This one never had testing tpwd just looked at photos and changed their mind I guess. Great fish none the less!

The angler never got a fin clip. It’s just a pure guess by tpwd at this point.

Not starting a war. I def think it’s a mean mouth and quite an accomplishment. . I was just answering the previous post because I know the story first hand. Good fish. Congrats to angler.

Not a fan of TPWD changing they're stance because the angler complained. I took a fin clip and insisted it be tested because they didn't believe me when I said mine was a hybrid. The state biologist told me mine was 100% smallmouth until the results came back as a F1 smallmouth/spot cross. I took the fin clip of Cody's fish because I believed it was going to beat my record.

You can not be certain on these fish without DNA. If they make it the state record it needs an asterisk.

It is an incredible fish whether it is a smallie or hybrid I just don't like the way the state handled it.

I think they got it right but I would of liked to see proof for a state record questionable fish.
