Weedy Winter Pond Options

Hey all,

I happen to live in short walking distance to a pond that holds bass, so I fish it nearly day after work before the sun goes down, but it's very weedy on bottom and difficult to get away with anything other than weightless Texas-rigged soft plastics (even shallow diving cranks seem to catch weeds every cast; same for chatterbaits and spinnerbaits). Just looking for lure/rigging suggestions of how I can fish this kind of pond, particularly this time of year when water temps are lower. Should I just continue with weightless soft plastics Texas rigged? Maybe dropshot? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Initial thoughts

--weightless fluke, fish it slowly

---Shallow floating jerkbait, just above the weeds Rapala original floater (widely available including Wmart)
Throw it on a medium spinning set up with 20lb braid

The braid will help you pull fish out of the weeds once the bass grab the lure and take it down to the bottom.

I don't think it's very deep - I was throwing a 3-4 ft diving crank yesterday into open water (where you'd think it was deeper) and was hitting weeds after maybe 3-4 seconds of retrieving.

I'm with you on weightless flukes - that's one of the weightless soft plastics I throw and have had success with those at this pond when the weather was warmer. I have a tendency to fish it fast though, so I'll try slowing things down with it. I did pick up a Rapala Husky Jerky suspending jerkbait the other day at Academy but haven't fished it yet. I do have one of those original Rapala floaters somewhere in my tackle box, will give that a go too.

My finesse setup is a ML rod with braid and I'm mostly happy with it. I do think a M power would work a little better though - I've had a couple instances where I lost fish near the bank where the weeds really get gnarly.

Agree, float n fly with a tiny crappie jig/fly a short distance from the bobber could be great.
