Easiest would be either Picachos or El Salto. Ron Speed and Anglers Inn are two main outfitters. Both have been around for years and are trustworthy.

More numbers at Picachos, better shot at big fish at El Salto. Picachos is around 45 minutes from Mazatlan, El Salto is an hour and a half or so.

The other two lakes with big fish are Bacarrac and Comedero but both are for the more adventurous angler. Farther drive, more remote.

Ron Speed Adventures is currently offering a special for wives or children. I'd do Picachos if you haven't been.

I am also doing a drive in trip each month starting in Feb. on the 16th for 5 days of fishing on Lake Guerrero, cost is $1350 for 5 days fishing and 6 nites, all you need to bring is rods and reels, baits, drinks(Cokes or Beer) and snacks. If you bring your boat and gas, $900 for trip. Food is good, ask Donald Harper. Only have 2 spots open for Feb., house handles 7 , for pictures PM me. Other dates open for groups of 5 to go.

Ron Speed Adventures spring break special if your son is under 21is a great deal.

I just returned from Picachos yesterday and the fishing is on fire and food is great. 150 to 270 fish a day per boat.

I have been with Woody on this trip and it just doesn't get much better. We took our boat and had a blast. The House is huge and the grounds around it are so beautiful. You can even have a guide for the day for a little of nothing. The guide will dress the fish at the end of each day to freeze; so for you meat hunters, you will come home with a bunch of Bass.

>>> I like fishing Mexico just as much as anyone <<<<
but isn't Lake Guerrero right in the middle of the area being fought over by the cartels.
I mean,,,, Mexico side of Falcon is great, el salto, piccahios, ron speed anglers inn ,,,,, all OK
BUT Guerrero -- drive in ??? That one you would have to sell me on

Is there any night entertainment when you go to these lakes?

Anglers Inn at El Salto, it is most consistent most comfortable trip. Just overall awesome. Buddy has been like 12 times... He tried other groups but keeps going back to anglers

I think it depends a lot on what kind of experience you want to have, and how experienced an angler you and your son are. I will assume you are a skilled angler and have been there, done that. But if your son is a rookie or beginner, then there is no place like Pichachos to ruin him on fishing for the rest of his life.

I have been four times, and am going back in late March.. I have fished all over eastern Mexico. I have also been to Salto and Comederro.. Both great trips, but in my opinion, for the more experienced angler.

The possibility of catching a true giant is better at Salto or Comederro I believe.. But there are a ton of quality fish in Pichachos and you will likely catch fish till you say when..

As far as outfitters goes, I just can't see anything better than what Speed has to offer at Pichachos. One hour from airport. Private rooms. Go fish when you want.. Come back when you want.. Easy to get back to camp from anywhere on lake.. Awesome food and drink.. Great staff and transportation. Tons of quality rods on site.. Good boats and equipment. Experienced guides..

They can't do enough for you.. Call me or PM me if I can answer any questions you might have..

I like to cruise around at night on motorcycles, visit some local bars and listen to bands.

More into that type of entertainment

Re: Mexico Trip info needed. - 12/18/18 01:35 PM

El Salto is a struggle right now. My brother just got back from a 3 1/2 day trip down there. The biggest they got was a 8.3lber but the next biggest after that was only 5.2lbs. The numbers weren't all that great for El Salto either. From what my brother heard from a guy that has been going down there 6x a year for 10 years, the local netters are putting out 2 to 3 times the number of nets they are suppose to and no one is regulating them and it is hurting the bass fishing. Now he could have just went down at a bad time. I've been to El Salto three times and all the trips were good, just not great. If I was to go back to Mexico, Id be heading to Baccarac. Probably the number #1 big bass lake in the world right now.

I went to Commodero about 10 years ago. We wore them out in numbers. There were a few over 10 caught in our group. Our best was around 8.5, but we caught lots of 2-4 pounders. I bet those guys are all grown up and mean now! It's a ways out in the country..but awesome. Funniest thing that happened was my buddy was up front and threw at a bush with a worm. I was throwing a spinnerbait. We both set the hook about the same time...and both had the same fish! LOL! We thought we had crossed lines but when we got the fish to the boat realized what had happened. I gave my buddy hell for not realizing he had a bite. That little guy was hungry!! I wouldn't venture too far up the river if I were you is the only advice. Other than that...bring you a glove for you fingers and hands. They'll get worn out from fish teeth! Have fun!

Re: Mexico Trip info needed. - 12/18/18 11:41 PM

Went to El Salto end of november. This was my eight trip there. Don't know why but big fish were hard to come by. My biggest fish in 3 1/2 days fishing was 5 1/2 lbs. Next biggest was 4 lbs. In all my times there I have always caught at least an 8 pounder. There were probably a total of 20 fisherman there during my stay. Biggest bass i heard of was 8 lbs. I think pressure combined with the exssesive netting might be having an effect on the big fish. If they are out suspended off shore they are hard to target. Will be going to Comedero end of January and hope to get on some BIG fish!!
