My 2000 OX66 Yammie 150 is pretty warm natured too.. its a Florida motor so I'm not surprised..
I have been giving it a shot of starter spray for the first turn of the key and once it fires it fires all day long. I pop the latches on the cover, lift it up a few inches and spray at the intake cover for just a second and bada bing.. Doesn't do this so much in the summer, just in the winter. I have replaced the low pressure fuel pumps but that was a different symptom. I know this isn't the real fix to the problem, but what I do to go fishing.
