Question about Ledge Fishing

Im learning how to ledge fishing but in our lakes in Texas in the summer there is the thermocline. When you find the thermocline do you find ledges thats above the thermocline or do you still fish them deep below thermocline?

It depends on how deep the water is, in my experience on Lake Amistad. Fishing deep bluffs to over 100 ft., I would see a Thermocline at 20 ft.. At 30 and 50 ft. we located big schools of Bass against the wall. They bit great. If you are seeing fish, they are there; so fish for them.

I normally just idle from one point of the lake to another, doesn't have to be anywhere specific. See where the majority of the fish are hanging out (should be just above the thermocline)...So just for an example, let's say the thermocline is right at 22ft, and most of the fish are suspending or setting up in 20 ft.

After you confirm the depth (20ft ^^^), use your maps to find some ledges (narrow contour line areas if you're dead set on ledge fishing) that are in play at the depth that you found. This is what I do, and I'm no "hammer" by any means....but if I can do this and catch fish, anyone can. This will at least get you started. Good luck!
