Ray Hubbard Guide Johnny Procell R.I.P. - 06/08/18 02:51 PM

Just saw that one of the great fishermen in our area passed away last Friday. I grew up in Grand Prairie next door to Johnny’s brother and went to high school with his niece. Retired Grand Prairie firefighter Johnny guided many, many years on area lakes but specialized on Ray Hubbard. He knew Hubbard like few did. A great bass fisherman but he was the king for hybrid fishing. A client he guided still holds the state record for hybrids at 19.66 lbs way back in 1994. I’m old and the same age as his niece and that man was still guiding a couple weeks ago! Good bye to a North Texas fishing legend!

Wow had not heard about this. Prayers for family and friends. Johnny was kind enough to donate a trip for FFAC last year. He was always fun to listen to on Bran Hughes show. RIP.

OMG I'm so sorry to hear that. Never fished with Johnny but did meet him a few times at the ramp and I listened to him many times on Brian Hughes, Texas Fishing & Outdoors Show. Mr. Johnny Procell will be sorely missed by many!

Man that is horrible!!!

Pretty much see Johnny every single time I am at the ramp. I remember when I was probably 6 or 7 years old me, my Dad, and my brother were coming off the lake and Procell was loading up his boat too. He asked if we did any good and we said not many. He told my Dad to take us out to Tawakoni because they were killing them out there. Next day we went to Tawakoni and fished right where he told us to and caught fish all day long. Still one of the best trips of my life!! Thanks Johnny!

RIP! angel

Yep. I listen to it every Saturday and Sunday morning that I have to work... his reports were great and his sign off was consistent every call in.

RIP Johnny!
I too am a friend and former classmate with his niece and was shocked when I saw this on the GPFD page and on hers. I got to fish with Johnny several times, use to have a blast catching Walleye on Hubbard. He was one of my mentor's when I first started in the fishing industy. He was a good man!
