Deep water/summer time tactics

Deep water/summer time tactics - 06/07/18 02:16 PM

I have never been a great fisherman, I have been fishing off and on for a long time, but never truly asserted myself to sport like I have this year. I guess all in all I have more time, more money and better health to be able to do so, so here I am.

That said, I can catch fish well most of the year, except for in the heat of summer when everyone else is saying they are biting good. and I need to learn more about deep water fishing and summer time bass tactics. Now.. yes I read, yes I watch videos, but they don't always give you the narrative you can get from time on the water with someone with more experience. I will be taking a guided trip later next month, but I would also like to start fishing with others who are able to show me a few things to help me locate fish. And to be clear, I am not asking for spots... just generalization.

I know this is more of a partner finder post, but to be honest, how many of you actually go in there...

That said, I am open this Friday evening and any time during the weekend if someone wants to get out. I have a small boat that fishes well, or we can fish from yours. Let me know.

And please, not to sound like a jerk, no let's learn together PMs... two lost people in the dark don't always find the light lol.. I need Yoda on this one..

Big bass are lazy! big baits and patience are your friend.
If you are close to Benbrook that is the perfect lake to learn how to find and catch deep fish. I started out fishing deep at O.H. Ivie and implemented what learned out there to all the lakes I fish in the DFW area with success.

deep water tactics can be tricky . I have fished water as deep as 80 feet with a D-shot and caught them .
I see the problem several ways .
1) oxygen , bass can not and will not try to live in water that doesn't have enough PPM /oxygen . In some lakes , the thermocline dictates how deep you'll find catchable bass . When not feeding actively , I think bass , especially big bass , will be near best combination of available oxygen , structure/cover and food . If needed , big bass , will travel shallower in search of food if they can't find it in deeper water .
2)Structure/cover ,bass tend to not travel far from home spots . 80% of the time they are deeper than most guys fish . Find area's that can hold fish in both deep water and places where they can easily move shallow in search of food.
3)Wind , this is probably the most overlooked aspect of finding catchable bass . Wind pushes plankton into certain area's of lakes . small fish and baitfish will always follow plankton patterns . The congregation of those baitfish tend to " turn" on bass.
