Skeeter boat owners, question about motor height

Skeeter boat owners, question about motor height - 06/05/18 12:42 AM

I am interested in knowing what height you guys who have a zx or fx, 2016 or newer, have your motor at and what your fully trimmed rpm and speed is? Using a manual jack plate.

By height, I’m interested in how many little dots/bullet marks are showing on your jack plate.

I think skeeter puts it at the very top of dot 7 (so you can see 6 dots and the 7th is just barely hidden). To my knowledge they do this to ensure you’re able to hit 6000 rpm when fully trimmed and they’re guessing a weight people will have with a full tournament load to sink the boat some.

However if you run a light tournament load this setting may not be optimum. I’m most likely considered light because when fully trimmed I can hit 6000 rpm, but then I start losing speed a little unless I bump the trim down a hair.

Mines at 7. Hit 6000rpm light loaded or even loaded with two doesn’t seem to matter it runs 75.

In your last paragraph, what you describe as not optimal is the text book definition of proper setup. Set the boat up to hit full rpm (6000) so that when you trim up a little the speed drops.

You are set up perfectly.

Is it at 7 as in you can’t see the 7th pin because it’s right at the top of it. Do you trim all the way up and then bump it down, or do you trim all the way up and you’re run and 6000 RPM at 75 mph. What pitch prop are you running ?

Ok thank you. So it’s normal to have to bump it down a few clicks to maintain top end speed?

Yes... a tap down once it drops off at full rpm

Factory setting on the jackplate. Not sure of the height of it. But Ive run every skeeter Ive ever had straight from factory, never tweeked, and have always gotten 74 to 75 mph.

I can see 7th hole. Speed increases as I trim up. Prop is 25-TI 15 1/8

Might post this in boats and motors section.

I am at the very top of the 7th dot, so can’t see it.

I have a new 2018 skeeter fx le 21’

I’m light loaded with tournament set up. Have my jack plate set right at the top of the 7th dot, I went out today with my partner, live wells full, full tank, tackle, and ran 70.5mph at 5880rpm. I can’t get to 6000 or above 70.5, I should be running around 72 at least if I could get to 6000, or I assume that.

Should I raise my plate a 1/4”

Do you have a big rooster tail?

No, it’s maybe 1ft higher than the top of the motor when fully trimmed

It’s summer time. Summer blend fuel and this heat will rob you of 2-3mph

You really are well setup
