Golly the new fashion must be square. Looks just like an evinrude

I don't care what it looks like , give me the ugliest motor on Earth that sips gas and last 15 years .

Its a sad day when Merc sees Evinrude as the one to follow.

Looks like a G2 2.0

Re: Mercury 250 ProXS 4 Stroke Picture - 05/03/18 12:18 AM

I think the shape of the cowling is because of the configuration of the engine, if they made the cowling more conventional looking it would be as big as a car hood. I guess I am going 4 stoke as well in the future, probably changing brand of boat as well, if you can't beat em then join em.

I don't see any resemblance to the G2... I like the way the G2's look too. Maybe it's because I'm young.

Evinrude is not the Evinrude of old. Since BRP purchased them they have become a great motor. I switched from Merc
to Evinrude and have been very happy with the motor. I have around 300 hours and it still runs great.

I’d think that RMP might catch a little hell over leaking out the picture.

I'd like one with about 450 hp.

Just looked at the picture again and noticed there is an Evinrude in the back ground. Hard to tell but they do look very similar.

Of course I could just put a 300shot fogger system on my f1fiddy....lol. And then I'd have 450 for a few seconds.

It has the same shape to it. I like the look of this merc better than the G2 though. Not a huge fan of the G2 but it's growing on me a tad bit. I'd rather have merc or yammy though

Yep, no longer have the need for speed, guess I am getting too old, have my eyes on that new boat coming out.

Re: Mercury 250 ProXS 4 Stroke Picture - 05/03/18 02:14 PM

It looks just like all their other 4 stroke motors Mercury makes. So Im not really surprised. And I remember when the SHO first came out. Everyone said how ugly it was as well. Now its all you see as far as Yamaha goes.

Re: Mercury 250 ProXS 4 Stroke Picture - 05/03/18 03:03 PM

It may look similar to the E-tech but it couldn't be further from it. 2 stroke vs 4, V8 vs V6. I can't wait to see the details on the motor. Is it a pushrod motor? Overhead cam? dual overhead cam? Guessing pushrod for space sake. 250 HP out of 4.6 (283 c.i.d) is not any stretch at all. With the technology of today's motors there's probably 450 h.p in it easily. There is a relationship with GM, and the motors they build for Mercruiser, hopefully there's a little LS motor influence in it. We'll see.

A 150 SHO cost $15,000. Prolly closer to $25,000 for that Merc.

The one in the picture is 100% on a 520L or 521L. You can tell by the tail lights on the trailer.

Re: Mercury 250 ProXS 4 Stroke Picture - 05/04/18 04:04 PM

No one has been complaining about price, so what has been stated and the few who have been notified about the new engines on there boat orders, I'm sure its pretty close to what a 250 Optimax is.

Re: Mercury 250 ProXS 4 Stroke Picture - 05/04/18 06:25 PM

when merc killed the pro xs motor the replacement motor for it wont be much difference in price if it was they would lose market share.

Re: Mercury 250 ProXS 4 Stroke Picture - 05/04/18 09:53 PM

This should be the "Gamechanger" for Mercury. I believe they've done their homework with this new four-stroke.

Yamaha has enjoyed a great six years with the four-stroke SHO motors. I bought one of the first ones ever built in 2011. It has been flawless. I got a letter from them last Jan that said my motor was built during a time when they had some issues with oil pumps so they gave me a brand new powerhead.

They build a V8 four stroke but it weighs 800 pounds!!

I am looking forward to more 411 on the new Mercs!

if you order now this will be the only option you will have in a Mercury and they are taking orders now for this motor.
