Smallmouth Bass Fishing Summer Trip? - 04/27/18 06:34 PM

Hey Y'all,

Who out there has gone on a Smallmouth bass fishing trip out of state?

Was it enjoyable, and would you do it again?

Is anyone interested in a fishing trip like this?

Would love to hear some thoughts on this!

I'm following this one. One of the bucket list trips for me. I would love to go somewhere and catch countless 2-5 pound smallmouths all day

No joke, if you hit some of the lakes in Maine during the spawn, you will literally catch counteless 2 - 5 pound small mouths. Water is gin clear, site fishing ... A couple buddies of mine up in CT go there every spring and the pics are amazing... one of my bucketlist items as well.

I'm from MI, great smallmouth lakes there, but nothing like what I see in MN. We go up to lake vermilion every year at the end of June, early July. We fish for walleye, and when the walleye bite stops mid-morning we switch to smallmouth and catch as many as we feel like in the 2-6lb range. It's crazy. Far ways from here but lodging isn't too expensive. We stay at everett bay lodge and the owners are great.

Were headed to Mille Lacs this summer and plan to hit a couple other lakes as well. Really excited to try our hand at some small mouth!

Lots of places I would recommend, the very last would be Mille Lacs. It's been pounded to absolute death. If you really want an incredible trip, I'd recommend the boundary waters. It would be adventure and guaranteed smallmouth until your arm falls off. It's not for olds though.

Actually, you don't have to go very far to experiance this type of smallmouth fishing. Table Rock in Missouri can fish this way if you time it right. In fact, I'm headed there for a week in the middle of May.

Go to southern Ontario the end of June. You can catch 60 2-6 lb smallies a day.

Mille Lacs has definitely had some pressure but it's still a big lake and smallmouth aren't particularly smart...LOTS of smaller lakes just northwest of the lake as well that are full of big brown bass. I'll be at Mille Lacs May 26 thru June 1 (was there at this same time last year). If you aren't catching fish MOVE. You will find them. Dunkirk and Buffalo NY on Erie are fantastic but the big water takes a bit more time to break down. This will be my 11th year to pull my rig up north so be prepared...it's addicting!

Hit the SM spawn on Delaney Lake first of June last year. Buddy and I caught 101 in 6 hrs on fly rods. Average fish 18 in. Smallest 15 and largest 20 1/2. Fly in lodge, meals and guides furnished

On my bucket list too. And I’m not fond of anything hanging out on there too long. Life is too short.
