What do you tow your boat with?

I'm sure this has been brought up but I'm curious to see what the more popular tow vehicles are around here. I know some people use SUV so I didn't specify make there.

Tundra. The biggest/strongest brakes in its class. Plenty of power too, thanks to its 10.5 mpg! grin

F250, but the company f150 tows for free so that’s been the choice lately.

Come on now didn't you see the commercial where the F-150 stopped the airplane when it landed?

I prefer Ford but it always comes down to the almighty dollar when I buy. My Chevy was cheap.

That's not a bad deal. Heck I'd probably drive a chevy if it was free

Wrecked my civic a month or so ago, got a 4x4 toyota tacoma to pull my boat. Just a smaller 17' tracker so nothing compared to some of yall wink. Was a trade off between gas mileage/work driving/towing the boat.

Re: What do you tow your boat with? - 04/25/18 07:41 PM

'06 2500 Duramax..

Only problem is, it's in the shop right now for a check up.. I got it not too too long ago and I just wanted to take it to a diesel shop for them to check everything from front to rear on it.

Right now I'm driving the ole 5.3 1500 until I get the Duramax back sometime next week.. After driving the gasser for just an hour, I had to ask myself why I didn't get a diesel sooner... I miss my truck already.. lol. That 5.3 is balless compared to the Duramax

But anyway to answer the question, the only vehicles in my driveway are GM and always have been.. I'd rather push a Chevy than drive a Ford

Tundra is in between a 1500 Chevy/ F-150 Ford and 2500 Chevy/ F250 Ford. So basically, it is in it's own class.
I have a Tundra and absolutely hate the truck. Too much plastic, radio sucks, steering is very loose.

I am a stereo installer by trade for 32 years. My stereo is basically pretty great (Focal and JL)! Just gotta gut it all and install quality stuff.

And most of the plastic is gone too....I had our upholstery shop add a bit of suede in a few places.

Steering is pretty bad.....I added a rear sway bar and that helps. But still kinda not right....yet.

Did you change the proportioning valve and calipers too? That sounds pretty bad to the bone. Did you have to do anything to recalibrate the ABS system?

No, it's a 2019 Ram. The rotors were one of the many things I liked about the Tundra, so it was definitely a selling point for me on the new 1500.

A GMC truck is basically the same as a Chevy. If you combine the two choices, It would surpass the others.

Re: What do you tow your boat with? - 04/26/18 12:41 PM

Im a big Tundra fan but thought Id try the GMC this time. I pull a ZX250 which is a heavy boat. I bought a 2018 GMC with the 6.1 liter engine that shifts to V4 when the rpm drops. pulling a boat, Im getting close to 17, and driving w/o a trailer I get around 20 1/2 mpg.
I didn't get close to that with my Tundras. The GMC has a stiff ride, almost like a 3/4 ton. The Tundra has a better ride but isn't good on gas mileage.

2008 Toyota Sequoia. 5.7 V8. Love the shorter rear end. Very strange, I get about 14 mpg average just driving and pulling it drop to about 13 mpg. Not much difference. sucks either way.

2015 F150 Lariat Supercrew 3.5L Ecoboost 3.15 gear. Tows my Basscat like a diesel. Average 19-22 mpg overall. 13.5-14 towing. Could not be more pleased. Came out of a 2012 Ecoboost with 3.55 rear and the 2015 tows circles around it, it's not logical but it's a fact. Had a Yukon XL 5.3L with 3.73 rear gear that wouldn't even compare with the ecoboost.

Re: What do you tow your boat with? - 04/26/18 08:30 PM

I tow with a 6.2L Yukon. I don't really notice the bass boat (FX21) behind the truck but the ski boat is a bit of a different story.

GMC 4x4 LML duramax lightly modded. 15mpg towing 20ft boat. Managed 20.5 with a loaded bed (not towing) on a 1400 mile trip last month. Won't ever go back to gas...way too efficient and fun to drive

I'll thank you right now. It's guys buying the eco deislels that make those HellCats and Demons possible. Manufacturers have to meet a goal for the GOV. Can't have too many fuel guzzling cars.
