April Tactics - 04/05/18 12:15 PM

So, I am wanting to get more into tactical fishing.

I've always just been a grab a pretty bait out of the box and chunk it till my arms fall of kinda guys. Typically it is a Texas rigged worm. Never really cared if I caught many, just wanted to go fishing.

I want to increase my catch rate. What do you guys target for April and what types of baits are you throwing in N. Texas lakes?

Spinnerbait and SquareBill CB until you catch some. Then slow down and pick it apart with Brush Hog and Fluke.

Target coves that are on the NORTH Shores.
- Coves that run North then Dog Leg to the West are the best.
- Same thing on the East side of the lake. Cove that run North then Dog Leg East.
- This makes it more difficult for the water that has warm to be blown out by a North wind.
- The SE wind which is predominate will hold that warm water in these coves.
- Fish the North shore of these coves.
- Fish the last 1/3 of the coves or start fish when the water in the creek gets to 10 ft. deep working toward the back.

The best TX Rig worm is the 7" Power Worm in Pumpkin Seed. Stay with it and fish tight to cover.
- Target the larges pieces of cover.
- Big fish like to be just around the corner of any protrusion sticking out off the shoreline in the calm water.

I am shocked at how well the Strike King KVD 1.5 is doing on Amistad right now, haven't stopped catching them on it since Jan. Granted they aren't 20 lb stringers up until last weekend, had it happen in the first 20 minutes on a full-moon morning. They will chase it out of 25 FOW there.

First bassboat my step dad got us was a 92 389 javelin. Great rough water boat.

This time of year a buzzbait and a spinnerbait does really well also. The fry guarders hate the buzzbait
