Ray Roberts Report from Friday 03-30 - 04/02/18 01:49 PM

It was a cool and breezy beautiful day to be on the lake. We had a weird NE wind that had all the muddy water pushed toward the West, it was very stained over there but much warmer water temps to about 66. Stubborn me fished the stained water tight to the hard bottom banks with everything you would throw at spawning fish (thinking with the moon and temps they were bedded) until about 10:30 without a bite. I moved to the East side of the arm and found the water pretty clear but colder at 58. I moved to the outside edge of the stick ups out to about 6ft, any stick ups that were around flat hard secondary points, and finally started getting bit. I caught fish, mostly staging bucks but a nice 4.7 on a long leader carolina rig on the outside edge. I did end up catching a couple more bucks on a small crank bait in the same area. I am sure there are a few that are catching them good but everyone I talked to, mostly people practicing for champs, seemed to be struggling a little as well. I did not see any fish on beds but did not really look hard. I also did not see any fry in the areas I was fishing. The lake was very crowded for a Friday but everyone was respectful and friendly. Hope this helps someone catch a huge one!

Should of hit the large flat between Lick and Walnut in all them stick ups. They have been loaded up there now for a couple of weeks now. Run a small swimbait thru all that and hang on.

Ya during tournament time I try to stay far away from that side of the lake!

I doubt many fish are bedding.

Yes.

They are not as easy to see as usual but they are there. Saturday was a fun day out there despite the wind. I don't get too spun up about Roberts either way when practicing. Whether I catch them or not it seems like it changes so much day to day for me I just show up and try to catch a few and keep an open mind. We are into the 1st week of April and water in the 60s. No doubt plenty have spawned, plenty are spawning and still plenty left that will spawn.

I agree with this. Even though I did not see fish on beds, I don't bed fish much so I was not really looking very hard. The biggest fish I caught was marked up on her sides and looked possibly post spawn. It should be interesting this coming weekend. I don't fish many tournaments but wish everyone who does good luck this weekend.
