Big fish vs small fish

If you are fishing and catching a bunch of little fish do you change locations or just change baits to catch larger fish?

If I'm not catching what I'm looking for I'm going to change something. I'd need to know more about the situation to tell you whether it's lure or location.

More often than not its a location deal over a lure deal. Change locations

Define "little fish". Are we talking 10" fish or 2-3 pounders?

I move , I’m looking for a big bass , my range is 8 plus . That is what I’m mentally preparing for .......of course when I bring that 13 lb er up it all will change I’m sure .

You have done the work to find the small fish. They are there for a reason. Location, structure, irregular features and cover is the key for the bigger fish to be close by.

Look at the 20ft contour right next to where you are catching the smaller fish. Find that piece of structure that is the most irregular feature on that spot in deeper water. Larger fish will be there. Sometimes the same baits especially the plastics will catch them. If I am catching on a small Brush Hog many times I will step up to the large Brush Hog to get the bigger bite in the deeper water.

Ok what I'm talking about is while fishing yesterday I caught 30 or so bass but my bet fish was about 21/2 and my best five would have only been 7 or 8 lbs I just barley had 5 legal fish. Did I just not find a spot with the bigger fish or did I just Ned to try different styles of fishing? I did try other baits with little to no success.what do you in this situation? Move deeper? Chang baits or just keeep doing what you are doing but in different locations.

Without being there its hard to say what you could have done differently to catch the bigger fish. My last trip out was last Friday. Everytime we went to the shoreline we caught small males 1-3 pounds.

I caught one good fish and lost a giant fish. Both of them were offshore deeper water, not 15' deep but certainly not on the bank in 2 foot. Were you throwing at the bank when you were catching the smaller fish?

.....really, if anyone of us could truly answer that question and do it ourselves on a consistent basis we would be really HAPPY fishermen.
The answer to that question is the HOLY GRAIL of fishing.

Had a spot on Toledo we was catching 2-2.75lb fish every cast. Switched to bed rig and average size went up. Could of been fluke deal lol

Just know that any day now the bigger females could pair up with one of the smaller males. It is all dictated by the water temp.

I don’t think he is asking exactly what he should have done to catch bigger fish.

Question is do you keep doing what you are doing to get bites and hope to stumble across bigger fish, or do you do something different to target bigger fish.

I’m almost never successful, but I’m usually trying something different after 5 small fish. I usually head deeper and/or fish a bigger lure. I often wonder if I’d be better off to just keep doing what I’m doing to get bites and play the odds that sooner or later a good one will bite.
