Re: Lake Grapevine - 03/29/18 07:30 PM

TPWD report (I find these seriously lacking) says water temp is 58-62* and bass are fair on finesse jigs and crank baits. The water is 1.94 high and stained....

I stand corrected, sorry.
"Mar 28, 2018Water stained; 60–63 degrees; 1.38’ high. Black bass are good on lipless crankbaits, Texas rigged craws and squarebill crankbaits..."

I'll be out there tomorrow. This rain will surely have the water nice and stained, plus they are releasing water pretty good. I'll post in this thread how it goes.

First fish last Thursday 20" 5 lbs 3 fish caught. Second fish Sunday 21" 6lbs 3 fish caught that day. All from my new 40th anniversary heritage bass tracker. Yes I had fun. Water temps were 58/62. Fish caught shallow. Less than 10'.

Buddy of mine caught a 7+ off of a bed last week so they’re shallow and the water temps must be in the range of mid to high 60’s

I'm going to fish Grapevine for the first time in years this weekend. Are all the ramps open?

Bass came with it’s own tape measure.

Fished for 3 hours today. Caught 4 and lost 2 more. Biggest fish was only 3.25 pounds. All fish were caught in 1 to 4 feet of water. Clarity was ok around the mid lake but really dingy up towards Marshall Creek. I never went to the lower end of the lake but I imagine the water clarity is fair. Northern coves hit 65 to 68 degrees. Main lake was 61 to 63.

I would like to thank the jackwagon who left his cast net under the water at the Murrell Park dock. My 250 Sho got dinged up pretty good by the net weights. Hopefully my prop and motor are ok.

A buddy and I fished Grapevine on Saturday and did pretty good all things considered due to the wind. We hit the damn at first light and caught three and lost what would have been a 5-6 pounder at the boat. We caught 8 fish total. The water was rough on the main lake and main points. Coves and sloughs were much better. Water temps back in coves was 63-66°. Stained as usual.

Were they hitting moving baits? Me and a buddy also fished on Saturday but stuck mostly to the South shore mainly because of the brutal wind and unfamiliarity with that lake. Caught a single 3 pounder and that was it all day.

Re: Lake Grapevine - 04/02/18 04:48 AM

We caught a few on square bill cranks. But most came from pitching into submerged scrub along the shore in the coves. Zoom ribbon tails in watermelon red and a little spike it on the tail.

I will be glad when the vine clears up and they close the gates.

Re: Lake Grapevine - 04/29/18 05:04 PM

We caught 1 largemouth and 18 White bass. Sandie's are10-25' off the bank. Shad are shallow. Using spinner baits. I have been disappointed with my fishing !ately can't get a pattern going other than the sand bass are getting annoying. Argh.

I will second that on the sand bass. They even hit a black senko before it got light.

Did the smallmouth stocking ever take hold? Anyone had any luck with the brown fish out there?

Yes, the smallies have done very well. I haven't caught very many since the new year, but the past summer/fall I was catching them pretty consistently.

Normally I agree with you on the sand bass but as a dad trying to get my kids onto something larger than bluegill, this is encouraging.
