Ken, what do you see is the difference in that Jackhammer vs. a regular Chatterbait? I put them side by side the other day, the only difference I could see was the head, and not by much. Is that it?

The Jackhammer has a very distinct hunting action. Not saying it's worth $20 bucks but what lure is, right...

I'm going to bring you a bunch of them Donald. I thought when I saw that little petite snap it could be a problem if a biggun grabbed it. I was right.

But it does have a very unique action compared to the other Chatterbaits.

Did you land the fish? $20 bucks is a small price to pay for a DD.

No, he jumped off at the boat. Wasn't a giant, probably 9ish.

I have 2 like that. I'm going with a bigger snap and hope it doesn't hurt the action.

So, it looks like the$6.99 chatterbait custom has a better snap than the evergreen! confused

I am learning to do the twisted wire tie. Just got to find better tools to make the twist. I am also eliminating the split ring. No more snaps or split rings coming soon. Keep watching; Prototypes available.

Have you tried using Mustad Fastach Clip? Tackle Warehouse uses #2 on their Z Man Chatterbait Custom model. I bought some of the clips to replace on my originals. it's a job to get them on the blade. Not sure how it would change the action of the Jackhammer.

Re: Well.. There goes $20 bucks... - 03/09/18 09:09 PM

We had a good day considering the northeast wind blew hard from 10 AM until dark. We landed 20 fish but mostly males from 1-4 pounds.

My partner had this 9.0 and we had two more 7 pounders but the trip fell a little short from what we had hoped for from CB.

Not really those are made by evergreen japan, I would have expected better than that hmmm Still got a ton of the old D&M bladed jigs, hate they made them change the blade to head configuration.

"Wasn't a giant". Lol.

Ike would have [censored] himself over and over. His boat wouldn't have been big enough to run back n forth without fallin overboard haulin in 9 pounders.

Greg, don't misunderstand me when I say the 9 I lost wasn't a giant. If I hooked a 9 at any other lake, including Fork, I would be calling it a biggun.

You don't go to CB to catch a 9 pounder though. That place will absolutely change your perception of what you call a Giant OMG

I have started using 40 # snaps instead of the 20 # a little tough to get on the blade but they work

Ken, I know what you meant lol it's a tough position to have caught 15lbers. Most fish after that seem smallish. And knowing a possible upper teener is a cast away at CB is crazy.

I'm always down for lunch, but it should be the other way around on who gets the check. grin

I had an amazing battle with that 9.36 last weekend on the Thumper. She twisted, turned and pulled like a train. We got her in and went back to chunking. I know the Thumper is only a 1/3 of the price, but I don't sacrifice on any components to get there. I buy American-made snaps directly from the manufacturer. Going to try to test it out on something bigger than 9 tomorrow!

KVD or Balco snaps are tougher than the others on the market.

Re: Well.. There goes $20 bucks... - 03/10/18 05:40 PM

I have some 80# Berkley Crosslock snaps I want to put on the baits but I am concerned about it having an adverse effect on the action of the bait. The bait comes with the Japanese Decoy snaps that have a more rounded shape than the Crosslocks.
hmmm

Re: Well.. There goes $20 bucks... - 03/10/18 06:05 PM

If it has the slight turned up nose on the blade. The effect of a larger snap is minimal. If your blade has the slot for the second hole it makes it easier to install. If it does not you will work your self into a frenzy. Both sides of the snap must be distinguished to get it through the holes. I am building you a Magnum Baby Doll Chatter for CB.

That's exactly what I use on my custom bladed jigs. It is impossible to open one up once you install it. I dare say the blade itself would sheer between that and the hook eye of you ever had a heavy enough test line and equipment to test it. They are a real wife to get on though roflmao

The Zman Project Z is my favorite chatterbait. Check out the snap on it, it's built for big fish. Just an all around great chatterbait, hook, snap, skirt, everything.
And as a bonus it catches fish, I really like the Zako trailer on it.

Hard to believe they put a crappie snap on the Evergreen chatterbait.

I know!

I ordered some of the 70# Owner Hyper-wire snaps from TW just now. I hope I can get them thru the tiny little holes on the Jackhammer. The snaps that come on the Jackhammer are made by Decoy which is another Japanese company that is supposed to make premium components. ugh

the new chatterbaits have a nice tied wire on them. excellent upgrade from the snap! used them this weekend when we needed a more subtle vibration. tried Alex's thumpers, but they wouldn't bite them- too much vibration for the sissy fish on Cypress!
