What size hook is most often used for Senko type baits? - 03/04/18 05:51 PM
I use Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG for stick baits and Flukes. It's getting hard to find Gama 3/0 EWG hooks, at a reasonable price for me, unless you get the heavier Superline hooks. I'm looking for a possible alternative. 4/0 EWG's are readily available, anyone using the larger size?

I use 4's and a lot of times I use the heavier supr line hooks. One reason is just for the rate of fall but reason two is type of cover. If fishing around wood if they get you wrapped they will straighten the lighter wire hooks before you can get to them.

I use 4/0 for senkos. Depending on rate for fall I either use a ewg light wire for slow fall or ewg HD hools for a little faster fall. Its really all a preference.

the size of the hook depends on the size of the senko, line and how fast you want it to shimmer.

On a 5 inch Senko type bait I use a 4/0 Owner J hook. That is my favorite wide gap hook and I have it in 2/0 up to 5/0 although I use a 3/0 and 4/0 most of the time for a variety of baits.

I use a 3/0 EWG Gamakatsu. For a little faster fall I will use a 3/0 or 4/0 Owner rig'n hook.

I found some Gamakatsu 3/0 25 pack EWG hooks on Ebay. Think I'll stick with these. Thanks for the response.

Those damnIgotyous are sharp but a little weak for me. Trokar or Owner 4/0 most of the time for me.

5/0 Skipgap for Tx rigging and 4/0 Octopus for wacky rigging.

4 or 5/0 straight shank super line Gammy for me with 3/64 oz. nail weight in the tail.
