Onix vs Lawrance

Onix vs Lawrance - 02/15/18 11:55 AM

I have a new boat coming with onix ordered. I have a helix on my current boat. I love the features of the hummingbird while connected to ultera, so I ordered the new boat with Humminbird as well . I fished with another guy not long ago that had Lawrance. The one thing I noticed about the Lawrance was how well defined the fish were marked. I honestly question my current helix set up because I can't tell what is a fish, most of the time on the screen. Reading the structure is awesome though.

My question is, is the Humminbird capable of marking the fish as well as the Lawrance? Should I have ordered the boat with Lawrance and done away with the features of the Humminbird controlling the trolling motor? I don't think it's too late for me to change my order, so input would be greatly valued, thank you! I would love to just get the Humminbird set up properly where it mark's fish as well as the Lawrance if that's possible.

In my experience lowrance does show fish a little better on side scan and a good deal better on down scan. As far as 2d, I've caught more fish with the bird on 2d than the lowrance but that's opposite of what most people say so I do no know. Maybe my 2d just isn't up to par. Really I would run either brand though. I do like the lowrance hds operating system, it's leaps ahead of the birds

I have used both. The Onix will give you a better picture once dialed in. Our helix was probably not a mega model. The older helix had 2 SI crystals in the transducer and then it pieced together the two images to make a fake DI image. The Onix will have 3 crystals, 2 SI and 1 DI. It's night and day different than your helix. I have 2 Onix and I've yet to see a better picture. The only hint Lowrance does better imo is 2d sonar. But mapping by Lakemaster is light years ahead of navionics too.

i run both brands the lowrance carbon with 3d is way better than the bird for down and side scan you get a full screen view all the way to the edge of the screen on side even when i do a 600 foot scan and the navionics platinum has better detail than lake master but lake master has much better marked boat runs and with a big software update coming in march for lowrance the down and side imaging will be in ultra high def and will have colored arches in the down scan like in 2d

The Solix with Mega imaging is a game changer and lowrance doesn’t hold a candle to it. I would cancel the Onix and get Solix 12’s or 15’s.

The mega units for the bird are better than any lowrance ive seen. Had a budy buy all new 3d lowrance set ups... we both have seen the bird and think it was a mistake...

If i hit the lotto right now it would be new ultrex, new mega units, and 15 foot talons

Well Dang, I got the names mixed up. The Solix is what I have coming on the new boat. My helix looks nothing like any of the screens shown here. Thanks guys. Any revised comments on the Solix vs Law is appreciated. Looks like to each his own, but the input sure helps with all of this technology. It gets a little overwhelming.

No doubt man, that's a great picture! I wish I had some video but I don't. But my Onix picture is basically the same as yours.
That's the only pic I have on my iPad, but I can count the fish on DI and SI. The Solix with Mega will only be better. Nothing wrong with Lowrance though!
