I know a lot of people may scoff at a guy posting his little old boat that he just got. But hey this poor boy has been slamming green fish since I was six years old. Just took 29 years to get to this point. Now its time to see if I can hang with the big boys! Ill watch yall fly by but ill be there in a minute. Ha ha

Yea definitely got some bang for my buck with the trailer. Rather have that than the one that comes with em. Dinky for sure.

Had that same boat but the '89 model and that thing was a tank. Got it about 9 years ago and just upgraded a few months ago but kept it as a backup because its so reliable. I gave that thing hell and it never skipped a beat. Punched a hole in it on a t-post on Lake o the pines and almost sunk it but got it welded back up and it was good as new. Also used it as a duck boat and drove that thing into some nasty stuff, launching over stumps and everything. Prop was beat to hell but still ran like a charm. Don't have to baby those old rigs like you do the new fancy ones.

Congrats on the new boat! Hope it treats you well!

P.S. Many tournaments were won in that thing fishing against the guys in their jerseys and 80k rigs. They hated it when the two high school kids in their 25 year old rig showed em how to catch fish.

Re: First actual bass boat!! - 02/14/18 04:28 PM

You will be just fine in that. It's not the boat that catches the fish, it's the person with the desire to chase em down. Give em hell

Re: First actual bass boat!! - 02/14/18 04:53 PM

Yea I've caught a lot in the old v hull loan star boats. I no they don't care about the boat. But some are faster and make less noise than others. It better be tough because I manage to break just about anything I put Hans on. Ha

Congratulations.

A new tm and a bigger motor and you will never want to get rid of it.

Re: First actual bass boat!! - 02/14/18 10:12 PM

What size motor you gonna put on it? I have one a couple of years old (Pro 170) that has a 50 Merc 4 stroke. Had a Tournament TX back in the late 80s that had an 80HP Merc on it. Both 17 foot boats. New boat max rated for the 50.

Not my first boat but its the first bass rig. Gonna put a 70hp Johnson on it. And already got a mk101 for the tm. Just got to get some oversized graphs and I will feel good about it. Can't wait!

Nobody is slamming your boat. It just looks a little wierd seeing that boat on a tandem trailer. That just means you can haul more fish on a trailering tournament. Nice boat. cheers

That is a fish catching machine that you can go anywhere in. Best of luck to you!

It’s the angler not the boat! KVD has won out of a nitro for God’s sake to prove that

Happy for you!!!

Re: First actual bass boat!! - 02/15/18 02:45 AM

You'll enjoy that rig. I had a 1995 Tracker and won my first bass tournament out of it....of course the 10 pounder I caught sorta helped! By the way, that tournament was on Sam Rayburn and I was the only angler in a tin boat. Just go fishing and spend time learning areas really well. Don't have to run all over the lake. I have since lowered my standards to fiberglass and have ah.....a....well ah....Nitro....but I know it's about to break in half any trip now....lol. Enjoy your rig!

Re: First actual bass boat!! - 02/15/18 04:51 AM

Make sure your 70 isn't over-powering the Coast Guard label, or you will have some trouble with the inspections and Polygraph for tournaments.

Congrats!

You have a 17-year jump on me. I was 52 when I got my first bass boat. Enjoy yourself!

Re: First actual bass boat!! - 02/15/18 05:04 AM

Man I hope I don't have any troubles with coast guard label guidelines. Never even heard that. It had a 60 horse on it so I think it'll b fine. Not 100% on that unles ur jerking my chain. Little green when it comes to those specifics

Re: First actual bass boat!! - 02/15/18 05:24 AM

There should be a capacities sticker. It’ll list max load and people as well as a total combined weight. It will also list MAX HP. The rules for most tournaments say you cannot exceed these ratings.

Re: First actual bass boat!! - 02/15/18 05:25 AM

You can find max hp ratings posted on the boat if you want to check it out. It’s commonly found on a little square plate on the right side of the boat. Probably inside the gunnel near the driver’s seat. It can be other places, obviously. Also, David is right, no BS.

Thanks to everyone. I'm going to fish it hard! Still looking for some quality used hummingbird graphs. I've only owned a 596di. But really looking for a SI and a bigger di for the front of the boat. Pm if u have for sale. Thanks
