Rod power?

In your experience do you prefer a heavy (704) rod over a med-heavy (703) for a stick that handles both a t-rig and spinnerbait? For specifics I'm looking at the Dobyns Champion XP 703 or 704 for exactly those presentations. If the fish want a moving bait I'll tie on a spinner to go with my other hard baits and if they want the plastic I'll use it for a t-rig. And I will almost never go heavier than 1/2oz while I'm usually throwing 1/4 or 3/8.

Depends on the weight of the Tx rig and spinnerbait, but in general I would say medium-heavy.

I've got a Champion 703 and a Sierra 734 and with the 1/4 oz T Rig & Spinnerbaits, definitely a 703. For 3/8oz plus trailer on a spinnerbait, or 3/8oz weight plus worm on a Texas Rig its kind of in that middle area where a 704 may be just as good or a bit better depending on total weight. 1/2oz plus trailer or worm, definitely the 704. If total weight is 1/2 oz or under, 703 is plenty for me.

In Dobyns extremes I always used a 3-power for baits like a shaky head or a senko. I like a 4-5 power for Tx-rigs and spinnerbaits

703 for shaky head, wacky rig, light tx.rig 3/16-1/4
704 for Tx. rigged Senko weightless, Tx. rig 1/4-1/2, Jig 3/8-1/2

Those would be my suggestions. For crank baits and spinner baits i like a rod that has more of a parabolic bend to it, one that is designed for those techniques.

Dobyns are 1 power weaker than most other rods, for example their med hvy would be more like a med to most other manufacturers.
