Fiberglass Repair Kit - Help. - 01/24/18 10:11 PM

I need someone with the knowledge of how to use the kit. I put a small gouge on the bow just below the hook up ring. Got the boat off center line and hit the step at the front of the trailer while loading in the wind.

Any help would be appreciated. I can bring the boat to you and cover all expenses. Please contact:

Don't know a thing about the KITS. I have never used one; just know they are available for small jobs. Can't wait for a pro to fix it, as we are headed back to Mexico in a week or two. Was hoping there was someone here with some experience that could help get the kit that is needed and do the repair.

I got Beer. roflmao

Mr. Harper,

While I don't have the experience you seek, I thought this video may be of assistance

^This, cover the marine tx w/ the clear backing that comes off ez-fuse tape until it cures and it will be just as shiny as new gel coat.

don't use marine tex, get the evercoat gel coat repair kit. it is super easy to use, it will look 100k times better than marine tex.

With such a small chip in that location I would still go with marine tex its more durable. With the repair kit you have to sand and wet sand over and over, would think that would be a major pain in that spot close to the keel guard

The gel coat kit is easy. No way I would do anything else. Just what JMac said.

I saw this earlier and thought for sure someone would have offered to fix it. I just did a similiar repair to my black Skeeter hull. It was super easy. I watched two videos on YouTube that offered the most help.

Here they are. Disregard all the mixing in the first video. The second shows the kit and how easy it is.. but the steps to repair in the first video are helpful..

I searched YouTube for black gel coat repair and found several helpful vides

The kit is available at Academy and I used the black right out of the tube. Be sure and prep the area with the grinder bit in a dremel or small cordless, then mask, sand, apply, cover with the sheet and then sand and buff. Incredibly easy

My spot was a rock chip from towing but was about the same size as yours. 2 hours start to finish.

Be aware that if you use the Marine Tex, you need to fill the chip completely, then wet sand and polish. You won't be able to put gel coat over Marine Tex as it will not bind, and come off.

Call Chris as Classic Fiberclass. Let him know how small it is and that you are on a time constraint. He may or may not be able to squeeze you in. I had a small spot on my boat like that last year, he had me bring it up on a tuesday and had it back to me friday. Said because it was small he was able to work on it between the bigger jobs as other boats were drying/setting ect.

Thanks for all the help guys. I will call Chris this morning. I am afraid to touch it as I have not used a repair kit before. It is also in a tight place and my mobility is not what it once was to work under the boat for a long period of time.
