Rod in the 150 to 175 range

Rod in the 150 to 175 range - 01/24/18 05:53 PM

I have been using Duckett rods for about 3 years now and I love them but those dang micro eyes keep popping off and the only local guy around here is $20 per eye to replace. I currently have 6 rods with eyes missing. So I am considering changing brands and looking at Powell, Irod and kinda like the new Bass Pro Carbon Lite 2.0. Let me know suggestions on what is light weight and held up well...thanks

eyes coming off or inserts?

Re: Rod in the 150 to 175 range - 01/24/18 06:02 PM

My suggestion would be to buy used. I have about 30 rods now and I would bet 20 I bought used at close to half cost. All my rods are $250-450 new (Loomis GLX, Kistler Z-Bone & Helium, Dobyns Champ Extreme) but I got hem at a steal and maybe a year old by the time I bought them. Too many people upgrade or re-stock every year and need to the newest item, so I just buy what they no longer need. I would bet you could get a Champ Extreme in that price range you mentioned, and definitely some kistler Helium options in that range. Try here : http://www.bbcboards.net/forumdisplay.php?f=22

Dobyns has three line of rods in that price range. The Colt Series, Fury Series, and Sierra Series. They are great rods and probably one of the most versatile rods on the market.

I would go with powell or the falcon low riders if I were buying new, but I buy used rods at a fraction of the cost. Re-wrapping those guides is a easy task to do your self if you have a little extra time, I watched a few youtube videos and its a breeze.

Look for used rods in trader and classified, saw a good Power Tackle rod ( too short for me ) 6'6" for 120 to your door and list for 320 bucks. fish

I love those new Carbon lite 2.0s rods. And they are under your price range.

I would also suggest that its rather easy to replace guides.

Leviathan trinity line is the best rod I habe ever used, I have been using them for 2 years and have yet to have an issue out of any of the rods, other than breaking one when the rod box closed on it.

Look for em at a store near you or give us a shout if local.

Man I agree. I have broken so many Ducketts I just can't justify buying them anymore. Light, sensitive, just too fragile.

Falcon Lowriders. Falcon has one of the best customer service departments in the business IMO.

Re: Rod in the 150 to 175 range - 01/25/18 09:32 PM

For about $20 you can put together a nice little kit and fix them yourself in about 5-10 minutes.

I have very little patience for tedeous projects such as this but repair my own. Sometimes I rush a little and it doesnt come out perfect, but plenty good enough.

Now every time I break a rod, i remove the eyes and add to my kit.

Most of my rods used to be missing at least 1 eye, but no longer. Also did you get your replacement eyes from Duckett? They have sent several replacement eyes to me. Funny thing is Ive yet yo break 1 that I have replaced.

Kevin Smith - Shamrock Rod and Reel Services 817-219-3049
Have Kevin custom build you a rod using the MHX rod blanks so you get it made exactly to your specs with the grips, guides etc. you want in that price range. You won't go back to buying mass produced rods.

$20 per eye to have them replaced?? Wow!! I’m an authorized Duckett repair shop and only charge $8 per guide out the door.

+1. One of the best fishing decisions I have made was going with these guys. I sold all of my Falcon's, Duckett's, Quantum's and Abu's and haven't looked back.

I used to use Duckett. I also had problems with the eyes. Switched to falcon bucoo micro. I love these rods and falcon has great customer service. Had one for about 5 years that I close the tip in the rod box. I sent it back to falcon. They sent me a brand new one with no questions asked.
