Prayers for his family. Dean was a great fisherman.
Always willing to help you out.
He caught a lot of huge bass out of Fork.
He taught me how to fish the white jig back in the day.
After that its all I wanted to throw. Thanks Dean

Re: A Lake Fork living legend has passed... - 01/12/18 05:23 PM

I'm selfishly heart broken that he's gone and for not having called him in the last 2 months when I knew I should have. Dean was a amazing man, husband, father and fisherman. I've have so many memories of him in the boat and out. He introduced me to Seth's, I was in his boat with my cousin for my first and only DD and he once gave me a 5 gal bucket filled with old lures that were just hanging in his famous boathouse on Fork. Those lures, some pretty valuable, all now sit in a shadow box in my lake house. We had countless days on the water where I was happy because we were having so much fun talking thrash when the fishing sucked but he was angry because as he said, he didn't like fishing...he liked catching.

Not sure how many SAL's he ended up with in his boat but I know of at least 3 and probably 2 more that weren't turned in. His mastery of Lake Fork's massive amount of underwater bridges was second to none.

Thought I would add a few more photos of him here. Good Bless you Dean. I miss you already.

That day with him wearing the Hawaiian shirt, we were trolling DD22's during the heat of the day to take a break from the heat. Nothing like that feeling when an 8 pounder hammers a DD22 going 4 mph.

Chris, do you know the date of the Hawaiian shirt, photo? The last time I saw Dean in person was on the east side of the lake and he was wearing that same shirt and hat. Summer, two years ago, I believe.

That had to be it Chris. The date of that photo I took was April 27, 2016. It was me and a buddy in the boat with him that day. And that pic was on the East side of the lake.

If anyone knows of a link to any video of Dean and Jerry fishing together,or for that matter, any of Dean fishing, please post. I did a little searching and was unable to find anything.

That man caught his fair share of donkeys from Lake Fork over the years.

The last time I ever fished with my grandpa was in the boat with Dean. It was a three generation trip, me, my dad, and grandpa not to mention our first time out any of us with a guide. We caught several very nice fish, it was spring of 95 or 96 I believe. It was just a special day that I will always remember, my grandpa is the one that taught me a love of fishing at a very young age! We fished Carolina rigs all day with 6 foot leaders and watermelon zoom centipedes. My grandpa was a trout fisherman from Oregon, no bait caster experience. Dean set him up with a spinning rod with braid on it and was so patient with all of us all day long. Anyway, I remember it fondly just like it was yesterday! Thank you Dean RIP sir and prayers for your grieving family!

This is sooooo true!!! Made me laugh reading your post. We were fishing together one day several years ago when I hooked into a good one (don't think it was a giant but was a good one) and I broke off. He turns to me and say "Chris, what pound line are you using?" I say 15#....instant response "This is Lake Fork son....don't ever bring 15# line in my boat again!" That was followed by a chuckle only Dean could give, but he was dead serious. Landed a 7+ on that same line a few hours later, turned to say something to him about it and he said "well you got lucky on that one".

Just loved the man....one of a kind. Sure hope this supposed winter storm doesn't prevent us from getting to the funeral service Wednesday morning.
