FAVORITE C-RIG ROD - 11/27/17 08:51 PM

I know this has been discussed but rather than search old posts I figured I'd ask... What's your favorite rod[quotweight/length/action for C-rig?

Re: FAVORITE C-RIG ROD - 11/27/17 09:17 PM

Dobyns 804c, unless you are throwing smaller c rigs.

I use a Kistler Helium 3 Heavy MAD 7’11 for Carolina rigs, one of my favorite rods.

Re: FAVORITE C-RIG ROD - 11/27/17 09:39 PM

I like a MH rod with a fast tip for C-rigs. Up to 3/4 oz. If throwing 1 or 1.5 oz I prefer a Heavy rod for those. BEST C-rig rod I have found is the Dobyns 804 Carolina rig special. rod. It is a Champion, but BEST I have found. Here is a link to it.

http://dobynsrods.com/rod/804c/

It can handle both light and heavy weights. It is a Heavy rod with a fast tip. GREAT ROD for C rigging. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I love PT rods and do not have an SB-4. I C-rig a lot with a pg 104 because I feel like the 104.5 is too much. I like the 104 but with a 3/4 oz weight seems like I need a little more rod. Is the SB-4 something like a rod that is between the 104 and 104.5?

Re: FAVORITE C-RIG ROD - 11/28/17 02:14 AM

I was looking at a 7 11 MH...I typically don't go over 3/4 oz for the lakes I fish. Im gonna look at TW and see what the dobyns will run with the 20% off. thanks guys

As numbers go I would compare it to like a 102.5 in numbers so yes, I used to use the 104.5 until the SB-4 came out, I use mainly 3/4-1oz and the 104 is to light for me.

Re: FAVORITE C-RIG ROD - 11/28/17 09:57 PM

Impulse 79H mod fast Randy Haynes signature series ledge rod. best c-rig rods have a softer tip on it with heavy backbone this allows you to chunk the bait along ways and hammer the hook home when you use a sweeping hookset.

I really like the Dobyns Champion 804C as well. I have a 784 Extreme and I have thought about trying it out as a C Rig rod but I cant stop throwing jigs on it long enough to give it a shot.

The Falcon Lowrider in the Lizard Dragger 1 model works really, really well. Heavier creature baits or BIG worms? Try the Lizard Dragger 2 model. Really nice sensitive rods and not stupid expensive.

St. Croix Legend Tournament (TBC73MHF) Carolina rig rod. Its GREAT for C-Riggin, but so many other techniques as well. Its kind of a multi-purpose for me.

Re: FAVORITE C-RIG ROD - 12/05/17 03:20 AM

I really like my 804C. It will launch anything from 3/4-1 oz into orbit. Easy to fish with all day since its well balanced. Doubles as a small swimbait and football jig rod for me.
Posted By: 1bassdaddy

Re: FAVORITE C-RIG ROD - 12/05/17 04:35 AM

I agree with the above post and I'll also include swimjigs and larger chatterbait/paddletail combinations.
Extremely versatile stick.

I like the 784 quite a bit for a C-rig rod so I bought 3 of them but that was before the 804 came out.

McCain Hi-Performance fishing rod has a rod in the premium series. It’s the 7’-3” Carolina magnum. It’s a heavy action rod that is phenomenal for Carolina rigs..I love it! If you’d like a little longer rod, the Alabama flipping rod is very similar, just 3” longer.
