Yamaha Outboard Operating Range

Yamaha Outboard Operating Range - 10/02/17 11:26 PM

I found out while wrestling with props and looking for a SS one, that in 2014 Yamaha increased the operating range off the 115 300RPM, to 5300-6300.
Yamaha has performance bulletins on their site with results of their motors with specific boats so you can see how they should be propped. The one for my boat and motor was done with the older motors with the lower operating range and with a prop that is no longer available. Lot's of head scratching trying to figure out why they propped my motor the way they did and trying to get the numbers to make sense when applying them to my boat and the newer 115 Yammie.
Just wondering if they increased to operating ranges across the board or just on a few select motors.

Refer to the operators manual, or, the info sticker on the motor itself. You should prop your boat to reach at or near it's maximum operating RPM's when normally loaded at WOT.

Slightly under propped is better than over propped. As for the rev limiter, it's your hand on the throttle control and trim switch. Over propping and lugging the motor ain't good for them, especially on hole shots.
