If you are going to put another one in of a different size, look at Starboard. Comes in white of black and can be cut easily and finished like wood to work as a new cover plate.

King Starboard won't take a finish. Nothing sticks to it except the adhesives made especially for it. It does come in a variety of colors, though, and you shouldn't have any problem finding something to coordinate with your console. It is easily worked with standard power tools and you would have to really work at ending up with something that didn't look nice. It's great stuff..
