oil injection

Noticed alot of oil reservoirs and pumps on ebay. Is this something I should worry about? I have a 96 Mercury 150XR6. What I've read is they are being removed and owners are mixing oil themselves.Would someone with knowledge on this give me their opinions.

Mine still pumps strong on a 98 model. I've heard nothing but good about it, however - if your oil light isn't working or you run dry by not checking it you can run into a world of hurt.

For me, I mix anyway because I don't trust anything but ME. With the oil injection that puts me at about 30:1. That protects me if I have oil injection problems for long enough for me to catch the issue (one would hope), but it also puts my mix ratio at the same as a chainsaw. More protection = longer engine life. People will tell you that you'll foul your plugs right quick at anything higher than 50:1, but I'm on 4 years now without fouled plugs. Still just as good as when I put 'em in.

bout tha only thing that actually "fowls plugs" past tha point of no return is a no fire deal.. i've run motors at 18 ta 1, had a "little more smoke", but never fowled anything..

tha oilier really gets a bad rap.. tha key is knowin' tha motors history.. if ya don't then its a [censored] shoot!.. heat is tha big destroyer of tha so called plastic gear.. if tha thing has been over heated at any time or if ya don't know for sure (used but new to you) tha oilier needs ta go away.. that seems ta be a force for all tha parts plus lotta motors get parted out in lieu of rebuild nowdays... jmo

Take it off, it's just too easy to mix you own fuel and have that 100% guarantee that your motor is going to be lubricated. Seen too many motors blow do to issues with the oiling systems, mainly gummed up filters and what not. Take it off and it's one less thing to worry about....
