Opti Max Pro XS 250 steering play - 07/26/17 03:03 PM
I have a 2016 Z21. The steering has some play in it and is driving me nuts. I called seastar and they said nitro should have put on the Pro system for that motor. They said the unit is no good a d I have to upgrade to the Pro unit. Can I order just the steering ram and slap it on. Or do I need a new helm kit as well. Here is a video of the play
I cut a brass washer and made a shim on each side. Lasted at least the 2 years I had the boat

Buy the Mercury UFLEX cylinder and be done with it. Exact replacement for your cylinder, but much beefier. Mercury part #8M0050097

If I recall correctly, Sea Star isn't an approved application for the 250hp - but the Pro product version is. If I remembered correctly, this is a case of the manufacturer delivering a dangerous boat because the steering is not approved for what Nitro & the dealer delivered. I'd call them up and take it take that approach after confirming that Sea Star isn't approved for 250 hp (if that belief is correct).
