150 yamaha Pro V can i mix oil in my gas tank too?? - 06/18/17 10:55 PM

my oil injection system has always worked fine but i am just wanting to make sure that there are no issues i could potentially avoid. its been a great engine and i want to make sure i dont make a costly mistake that could have been avoided.

would it be ok to run oil in my gas without disabling my oil injection system?

seems to me i would just have to change plugs more...

anyone have any other information??

If you're talking about adding oil to the gas with the injection system still connected then it will more than likely make the motor build excessive carbon along with the fouled plugs.

is there anything to do in order to remove the carbon? seafoam?

No need to add oil to your gas. Modern day injection systems are very reliable. Disabling your oil injection system and adding oil to fuel is an option, but a poor one. Your injection pump can decrease or increase oil delivery based on RPM's, allowing the motor to operate efficiently.

When was the last time you replaced all the fuel hoses from tank to engine? Todays fuels require updated hoses.

If the motor is fuel injected, when was the last time you had the injectors cleaned and flow tested?

Adding the proper amount of additives such as Yamaha Ring Free or Mercury QwikClean to each tank of fuel will keep the combustion chamber and other components free from carbon build-up.

Adding Sea Foam is as good as it gets. As far as I know Pro V`s are carbed. If you mix oil in the gas tank while the oil injection is still on, you will really cause a lot of carbon. The Yamaha oil injection is really good on these motors. They need the oil filter changed periodically. Pull the boat mounted main oil tank and you will find the oil filter in-line of the oil supply hose.

Too much carbon and the rings might get sticky. From there it's downhill.
There's an old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
I'm the world's worst about over doing stuff and I have to remember this all the time.
