Possible Boat Trade, Good Deal?

Possible Boat Trade, Good Deal? - 06/12/17 02:25 PM

Hey everyone.
I have a four wheeler posted here and on THF. I have the price at $2100, KBB is $3000. A guy on THF asked me if I would want to trade for a 1988 Procraft 1660V Bass boat with a 135HP Mariner. Here is a pic of some of the info, I am waiting for better pics of the boat. He said there is a soft spot in the floor behind the deck he was about to fix but then got busy and never got to it. Boat was last in the water March of 2016 and the engine was ran before winterizing it Thanksgiving 2016.
Right now, I am looking for a boat but mainly a ski boat. My plan is to possibly trade it pending condition in pics, fix the floor, and list it up for sale. I believe in good shape, running good, this boat would be a good trade for me to make. I think I would make more on the boat than the four wheeler.
Let me know what you think!
Thanks in advance
Kyle

Here are the book values on the boat.

floor repair is not an easy fix if done right. 1450 is about what that boat is worth. after sitting that long needs impeller for sure and may need fuel system work

He said the impeller was replaced in 2015, 1450 seems low to me, that may be what the "book" value is, but finding a boat in running condition is next to impossible on craigslist for that little money. I prefer to stay away from "book value" as they aren't real world numbers on what similar boats are actually selling for.
I have done floor repair in my current ski boat and it came out flush and just as sturdy as the rest of the boat, so that doesn't worry me too much

$1460 is low retail on JUST THE BOAT! Add the trailer, outboard, trolling motor it comes out to $3040 low retail and $3400 average retail plus any electronics on it. Just be sure the transom is good and I think it is a good trade. Resell after you fix the floor in early spring...of course the 4 wheeler would sell better in a couple months before deer season...

I wasn't thinking about it being just the hull basically. That makes more sense, I was figuring that was everything since I'm used to inboard/outboard boats where all is calculated together.
Rhe four wheeler has a slightly bent frame, so finding a buyer for it will be hard as it is.
This'll be my first bass boat. Not sure how long I'll have it if I trade for it, maybe a month or so. Thanks everyone for the help

i'm not understanding it like that, those values are a package value with the basics, boat/engine/trailer, all else are upgrades if you can sell it to the new buyer in a one price deal, i can not see nada putting a value out "just for the hull"

He's right. It confused me at first, but after going and looking:
If you look on NADA, since these boats are sold with outboards, you have the option to select the make, model and year of the outboard you have for the boat. When I did that for this boat, the value rose to about 2900 ish compared to $1450.

Does he have the title in HIS name?

He does. He has owned the boat for 11 years. Title for boat and motor in hand. Tags are current. He is going to replace the impeller, all the batteries and the trailer tires and bring it back to the area so I can do a lake test on it.
