BOAT HELP!

BOAT HELP! - 06/08/17 09:33 PM

Looking to get my first boat! Got my eyes on a nice Nitro Z7..

BUT! I've totally given Ranger and Tracker aluminums a look and I like what I see. Anybody here have experiences with both glass and aluminum? What did you gain or lose from one to the other (outside of the obvious). Doing all the homework I can to make the best decision possible. Will be fishing at least once a week so I'll get good use out of it.

Fishing where? Generally glass is better in open rough water where it doesn't get blown around as much. Metal is lighter so wind effects it more but because it is lighter need smaller motor, less gas on water and towing is easier. All depends on what you expect from a boat and where you primarily fish.

Texas water. Low land reservoir mostly. We get our fair share of wind.

You'll be happier with glass, get as big as you can, the longer the boat the better they handle rough water. If you plan of fishing every week in Texas you will be fishing rough water. A 19' or 20' boat with a max HP rated motor if at all possible. If your looking used (I would suggest that for a first time boat owner) wait a few months used boats are premium priced right now but will drop off in November. If you go used be sure and have someone reputable check it out for you. Be patient and don't jump at the first one you see (ask me how I Know). Good Luck and remember B.O.A.T. stands for Break Out Another Thousand, just the way it is.
