I know you're looking for opinions for the 150 etec but I just repowered my boat (1990 Ranger Fisherman) with a new 90hp etec. I'm really impressed with the fuel consumption, torque and easy startup. I also believe it's quieter than most, if not all, 4 strokes. I've been on the water 4 times this last week and only added 2-3 gallons last time out, and I do a lot of running and gunning. Plus, no scheduled maintenance for 3 years or 300 hours. There's too many good things about Evinrude that makes them stand out from the rest. I'm sure somebody will dispute my opinions, but I'm okay with that...

Good Luck

Thanks Tommy, I pulled the trigger on the ranger with the 150 E-Tec and all I can say is wow!!!
Super powerhouse with tons of torque and I love the quietness of it!

Ricky,

I have to agree with Tommy.

I recently purchased a new (to me) "07 etec 150 with 109hrs on it, and all I can say is wow.

I have owned all brands, including a merc 4 stroke, and I still have to look at the tach and check for water running out the back because it is so quiet!!!

The merc 4 stroke wasn't even this quiet.

I had an issue of it going into safe mode for some reason this past thurs, but at least it let me limp back to the dock instead of grenading while on the lake..

Now just have to take it to the dealer to pull the fault codes to see what is happening.

Enjoy the ride!!

I have the 90 Etec on my new SeaArk and I'm more than happy with it. I have 23 hours on it and it's used about half a gallon of XD100 so I can't complain there. It's on a 1872 which is a heavy tin boat with one of Steve's jack plates on it along with a hole shot bottom plate and I'm getting around a 3 second hole shot. That's plenty of torque. If there is something about this motor to not like I want to know what it is.

Bombardier ,owners of Lear jet,Can Am,and Evinrude, they even build aircraft wings for the military, when they bought OMC they completely re designed they're outboard line, don't think they're into turning out junk

I still love it! Ive had it out many times since I bought it and hasn't given me any issues. Loving the gas mileage! Tommy will you let us know what the issue was when you get it back? I'd like to know.

Re: Evinrude E-Tec 150 - 04/24/15 01:40 PM

Talked to the mech yesterday.

Obviously the last owner doesn't have a clue what maintenance means, as over half of the fuel lines are junk, and a few of them were as soft as mashed taters..

He will have to do a complete fuel system flush along with the 300hr service..( it only has 108 hrs on it)...

Called the prev owner to ask if he ever did any maintenance on the motor, and he said the motor doesn't have 300hrs on it so it doesn't need service... I explained to him the 3yrs OR 300hrs thing... (it's an 07) he just could not grasp the concept of the 3yrs thing and still argued about the 300hrs.. bang

Everything on the motor is still original 07. ( spark plugs, water pump, fuel/oil filter etc ).... I am still in disbelief!! realmad

Thankfully etec has the emm that will put the motor in safe mode to try to keep itself from grenading if it sees any problems. So I should only be out of service for a couple of weeks...

I don't buy the 300 hr thing either. My lower lube gets changed at 100 hrs and the prop is pulled to check for monofiliment that may have been picked up.
I'm curious as to exactly what the 300 hr service entails. Maybe it's in my manual.

I don't remember the whole list of goodies...

Do a search on ebay, if ya cant find it in your manual, one of the moderators for etecownersgroup.com has some 300hr kits listed, and it details all the service parts.

If I remember right it's about $300 for the parts alone.

Re: Evinrude E-Tec 150 - 05/18/15 11:42 PM

Update...

My Mech says the entire fuel system will need to be replaced due to the lack of maintenance..

I spoke to both prev owner and shop that "checked the motor out" before I purchased the rig..

Owner was just passing on what the dealer/mech had told him..

Still had to argue about the 3yr service with him (dealer/mech)too.... and he's a certified etec mech??? wow...dealer said motor was perfect with no issues... really??? then why is the entire fuel system clogged and getting less than 20 psi thru it (proper min is 50 psi)?? Why hasn't the ecm been updated?? why does it still have the original plugs, water pump etc?? why hasn't the 3yr OR 300hr service been done yet?? How are you an Evinrude tech??? sheesh

He supposedly did an entire top to bottom "check up" and found no issues. I was going off what he said since he was an authorized etec mech when I bought the boat...

Price tag is up to $1500 just in parts alone so far... and I'm getting them at dealer cost, not retail...

I am still debating on posting the dealer/mech shops name on here to bust em out, but I'm going to wait on that to see if he wants to make this right first...

Re: Evinrude E-Tec 150 - 05/19/15 12:57 AM

After my mech told me what he did, and gave me the price so far, I called dealers within a 80 mile radius of me to ask what they would charge...

Yeahhhh... my mech is wayyyyy cheaper than any other dealer...

Wow! My ETEC is starting to be a little sluggish on the holeshot. Hoping it'll work itself out before Im forced to take it to the mech.
