A brief tutorial showing how to drain and refill the gearcase oil on a generation 1 Evinrude ETEC outboard. Part numbers and materials used in the description. This is a relatively simple job that most DIY types can knock out quickly, save some money, and get back on the water for another season.

My 2013 ETEC would tilt up, but not tilt down. The issue turned out to be the tilt/trim relay, which is a one piece solid unit that is pretty much plug and play. Pretty simple DIY that may save you some money if you encounter this issue. Hope this helps someone else who has experienced this issue.

very good advice on the "check your bolts"
let me add something to this.
1) bolt head should be on the inside of the transom and extra large/thick fender washer under the bolt head. then a WASHER needs to be under the NUT on the clamp bracket side.. why? the nut will damage the clamp bracket. the washer keeps the nut torqued!! 2) it's highly recommended to use fine thread sst bolts.. not course thread! fine thread stays tigher.. 3) if nuts continue to get loose... replace the nylock nut... don't take a chance.

Anyone have instructions on how to change a fuel gauge (2006 Nautic Star 2110 Bay Boat)? Mine will still read and move but only goes to about 3/4 when full and then starts to drop to about half empty. From half empty it falls to empty (nothing in between). Last week on Texoma I thought I could estimate used upon previous partial fill ups and tracking how many miles traveled. Won't try that again. Ran out of gas and had to get help---only a mile or so from dock. But thought I should have had another good ten miles on the tank.
Time to "fix" change fuel gauge I think.
Any help greatly appreciated. Or is it better just to pay a mechanic to do it?
