Boat having hard time planeing out. - 06/25/10 04:55 PM

I have a Progator 200V with a Mariner Mag 200 and a Tempest 24P 4 blade prop. The prop has vent holes but you can't use plugs on it. It take for ever for it to plane out. I have 4 batteries and half a tank of gas (about 24 gal). I am picking up a Tempest Plus 26p 3 blade tomorrow. Do yall thin this will help?

If you can't get it to plane with a 24P 4 blade then forget about the 26p. You are going the wrong direction. You are pretty close to Steve. I would talk to him. I am not familar with Progators. If it is a heavy hull in a 20 then you probably need to drop down in pitch not up.

agree with stump jumper on this one...even if your current prop will take plugs...you dont need them...you need to pitch down...heat...humidity..and oh yes...ethanol flehan

26" is too much pitch,if your current state of tune/set up won't turn the 24 well. Don't get the 26". Talk to Steve and/or get your motor and set up tuned before your buy a new prop.

4 blade has more lift than a 3 blade. the 26 3-blade is going to be overkill. You should really consult with steve at steve's custom props(lake fork) and he will "pimp" yo ride! He will get you set up perfectly the first time.

I forgot to add it is blowing out ( just reving). I have to feather it to get on pad. Sorry about that.

how high is your jackplate? something's causing you to lose bite with the water.

1.5" below pad. I think it is the pvs holes

Drop the engine 1.5',sounds like its to high,if its blowing out as the nose starts to break over then its to high.

It is blowing out before that. If I feather the throttle when I take off it is not as bad. I am going to try an experiment tomorrow with ducktape covering the PVS holes. I read that some were to do that.

I am having the same problem with a 20' blazer/ 200 Mercury Xri combo. It came with a 4 blade 26 pitch trophy plus on it and it does not want to turn it coming out of the hole and you also have to feather it to keep it from blowing out. Mine is definately loosing bite as the nose is breaking over on that prop. I tried a 3 blade tempest 25 pitch and it had a little better hole shot (still not great) and did not loose its bite ever. I may try to find a Tempest Plus prop in 25 pitch and play with it from there. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. Mine will hardly plane with two guys and live wells full. Partner has to get on the bow. That sucks.

Mine did the same thing.. THINK I figured it out. Take your prop off and make sure there is no grass- fishing line wrapped around the shaft. The smallest amount of grass will cause mine to blow out.

if your running a 24p trophy now, going to a 26p tempest is not the right move.
at 1.5" below pad that's too high also. might wanna lower the engine tp 3" below. that will help the holeshot.
would also help to know what the w.o.t. rpms are with your current prop. if it runs good on topend, then a prop seal ring will help the blowout problem.

come see me sometime, and i'll take a look at your setup.

I will be on vacation the week of the 4th of July. I will pull the boat to see you.

I attached a hydrafoil to my outboard and it planes out great now. It gives the rear of the boat more lift and lowers the front.
