Trolling Motor lower unit paint peeling

Ok, why this is happening, I don't know, but my trolling motor's lower unit paint is peeling off and looks like it could use a good paint job. Have any of you experienced paint loss from your trolling motor lower unit? I just don't want to spray paint it black, even though it is, but need a few suggestions on WHAT product to use to cover it up again.

Seems like it could use a light sanding, but extremely light touch at that.

Any recommendations are surely appreciated!

Sand it the best you can, Then use a zinc chromate primer other wise paint won't stick.

I use BBQ grill paint, it seems to last longer.

Do this;
1. sand
2. spray with no-sand primer
3. spray with black Laquer
4. spray with clear Laquer
