DISHONEST MERCURY DEALERSHIP

DISHONEST MERCURY DEALERSHIP - 05/01/08 08:11 PM

I noticed my 250 was running funny during a tourney so took it to SUNCHASER MARINE on CANYON LAKE TEXAS who claimed to be a certified Mercury outboard shop. Well first i had to call multiple times then they told me that mercury denied the claim to have the fuel system repaired and they could fix it for 600 bucks. i called around and i was told by two mercury shops that that was twice the shop charge. I called Mercury and they said SUNCHASER MARINE never even called them to inquire if Mercury would cover it. I called SUNCHASER MARINE back and questioned the charges and their response was "F__k you come pick up your F__king boat". i was stunned and pissed. i went and picked up my boat and motor which was in three cardboard boxes and amazingly i did not lose it. I then took the boat and parts to WAYPOINT MARINE and they called back this morning and said MERCURY is taking care of it 100% and i will have it back in less than a week. I want to say thank you to Buffy at WAYPOINT for taking care of buisness the way it is supposed to be taken care of. if any of you in the San Antonio-Austin area ever need any MERCURY assistance please do yourself a favor and call WAYPOINT they do it right the first time. Thanks again Buffy,Rick Shock and the Waypoint team. Dustin C. Day

I would be calling the local Mercury Rep down there and talking to him personally.

There is no reason for that.

sunchaser may as well be a back yard mom and pop "we'll see you again because we just made your boat a time bomb" dealership. stick to the big guys in san antonio. and any tracker dealer - travis, waypoint, BPS, and... whats the other one up 35... anyways, you can't go wrong there. from my opinion stay away from those "certified mechanic" hole in the wall p.o.s.(no offense to spanky and a few other honest to goodness hardworking texas boat mechanics trying to make a living not working at a major dealership)

down with sunchaser marine!

do they even sell new boats there?

You should also write a letter direct to Mercury and put it on Bass Boat Central.

Just google sunchaser and it will prompt you to do it like a yellow pages listing when folks are looking for a boat repair place.

I recently changed/changing the impeller on my boat and I called a few small places and it was cheaper at Tracker Boats on I-35. This gent named Gene was really nice about getting me the part, 20.00 cheaper than all of the other places.

Had a similiar experience w/ Uncle Gus on Whitney. Kept my boat 6 weeks to change a fuel pump I was told would take 6 days. Went to pick it up when they called and said it would be done. They called the day I was to pick it up and said it wasn't and didn't know when it would be. Could be weeks. After a long argument I got my boat and took it to Lance at Fun N Sun, had it fixed in 2 days. Class act there at Fun N Sun.

I almost bought a motor from that guy at Canyon a few years back, but he acted as though he was going out of his way to wait on me, and disgussing the motor seemed to really put him out, so I skipped on the deal which was overpriced in my estimation anyway.

Glad I did, and I found a whole lot better deal!

They are listed on the Mercury website as an authorized dealer and repair facility. I would be on the phone to a Merc rep tomorrow.

yeah its hard sometime to find good service when dealing with boat dealers. i have had my round and rounds with dusty rhodes in tyler. not as much as the company but the big guy behind the counter that always felt the need to talk down to me. now i drive to longview to get my parts.

the stress and anger of having your boat down in teh first place is hard enough, let alone any other service issues you run into. I feel your pain. been there with a local company. Now I have found one I have 110% faith in.

Several things everyone needs is a good doctor, good auto mechanic, and a good boat dealer they can trust. Oh, and a good wife that lets them fish as often as they like. I have them all thankfully.

Re: DISHONEST MERCURY DEALERSHIP - 05/02/08 01:55 PM

Since we are talking about BAD DEALERS....never, never, and I MEAN NEVER DO BUSINESS with I-45 SALES just outside of Ennis. Bought was I thought was a new Nitro and turned out to be used. Boat ran like SH!7 so I took it to BPS and they informed me that those IDIOTS filled the gas tank with oil

So if you do business with them you ....well i will just leave my comments to myself.

You handled that better than I would have. Sorry to hear you had to go through all of that to get something that minor fixed. I purchased my boat from Waypoint Marine, they are top notch in ever aspect of boat sales & service.

Re: DISHONEST MERCURY DEALERSHIP - 05/02/08 07:18 PM

I would definitely notify Mercury about what they tried to pull, and what you went through. I would send a letter to as high up a person on the totem pole as possible. That is disgusting. I hate rip off artists.

Re: DISHONEST MERCURY DEALERSHIP - 05/02/08 07:33 PM

I agree with KelKay about reporting them to Mercury. If they are an authorized dealer for Mercury they need to know about these things that happens. There reputation is put on the line every time someone takes a motor to one of ther dealers. And the only way they can know about things like this is if people report any kind of trouble or problems they had with one of there support dealers.
