Prop pitch for 1000 ft.

Prop pitch for 1000 ft. - 09/16/21 02:34 PM

When I'm in Colorado I fish with at 12 pitch prop at 4500 ft (a Mercury 50 hp 4 stroke).

When I fish Texas I'm at 1000 ft (PK) and wondering if I should go with a 13 or a 14 pitch. I have both props but
wondering if anyone has a idea of which prop pitch will work best. Probably have to get out on the lake and see
where my rpm's are with each one.

Agree, check the rpm's for each. I'm thinking the altitude difference will be offset by the temperature difference if you are running in Texas during the hotter months...

Mercury says to drop 1" @ 3500 ft. then another inch for every 1500 above that. Personal experience @ 2000' its enough difference to drop an inch. Your case is the opposite. Your 12" will work fine at 1000' just stay off the rev limiter. If you're bound and determined to get a new prop then go up 1".
