So my aerator pump and recirc pump both went out at the same time. When I hit the button neither will light up or work. worked fine last week. All the other items on the display work fine, bilge etc... Is this a pump issue or a fuse issue?
If the fuse isn't blown, it's not a fuse issue. If the fuse is blown, it still isn't a fuse issue as
the fuse is designed to blow when the current in the circuit exceeds the design limit of the fuse.
If the fuse is blown, the problem is something drawing too much current. This can happen due to a number of reasons:
1) stalled pump motor - jammed with debris of some kind. An electric motor that can't turn becomes a low resistance short, so the amp draw shoots way up.
2) stalled pump motor - corroded shaft, bushing, or bearing impeding the free rotation of the motor, causing the same high amp draw effect as #1
3) corroded or loose connection - these introduce high resistance, which lowers voltage getting to the pump. As a result, the pump draws significantly more current, blowing the fuse.
If your pump motor modules can be unlatched from the impeller housing, do that and check for debris in the housing. Also check if the impeller will turn freely, or if it appears to drag badly. If it drags, you probably need a new motor module. If you haven't tampered with the factory wiring, there's less likely to be a wiring issue than the other two possible culprits. There are others, but those are the top ones.
