Trolling motor Question

Trolling motor Question - 03/08/21 05:13 AM

Do trolling motors with iPilot have a "spotlock" function? I am looking for an affordable trolling motor that has that "spot lock" or "anchor" function... Something I can press a button and it keeps me in place... Any suggestions? Academy has an iPILOT model for under a grand, but I am not sure if that will do what I want it to.

I- pilot models have spot lock feature. If you want to spot lock from your fishfinder ( go to your waypoints)you will need I- pilot link.

I think that is the least expensive spot lock trolling motor. It doesn’t have any competition in that price point.

I’d look for a used Ultrex. They are beasts.

I have the newer Terrova i-pilot 80lb thrust . I have been super happy with it since it enabled me to stop using a anchor all the time . If I had it to do over I would make sure I bought one with Link so I could follow contours with the fish finder . If you have the budget to go beyond the Terrova I would recommend one of the more expensive trolling motors that at least have a rope and pull handle to retrieve and stow . The Terrova requires you to get right on top of it and grab the head unit to pull it out of the water . When the water gets real rough it can be a chore to haul it in without stumbling off the boat .

Do you want the foot control or is remote only fine? What type of fishing do you do typically? Are you looking more at open water, or being in heavy timber? Are you aware of electric steer vs cable steer?

I have a 80# Terrova with i-Pilot, and I love it. But, I generally fish open water and I only use the remote. Terrova is a step up from the Power Drive which I believe is the most basic model in which you can buy w/ i-Pilot.

The Terrova is not a terrible trolling motor. It has the capabilities needed, but so does the ultrex on a much better made platform.
