Anybody ran a 2021 Suzuki 250 SS with the new gear ratio - 03/02/21 09:44 PM

Just wondering if anybody ran a 2021 250 SS with the new gear ratio, looks like they changed the gear ratio to be more of a bass boat motor.

I'm thinking about replacing my 2 stroke 250 Pro XS and want to look at all options both Merc and Suzuki. There are a lot more Suzuki dealers than I ever imagned once I started poking around.

Thanks Billy

Everything I've read about them seems like their a great motor but sometimes warranty support can be a little slow. Biggest issue is getting them propped right. With the 2.08:1 gear ration most seem to have to go up 3-4" of pitch and are a few mph slower on the top end.

Yeah the last thing I need is to buy a truck load of $740 Props!

Any suggestions where to start?

19 pitch on a 200 with a 2.0 gear ratio will give you around 50mph @ 6000rpm.

Try a 27. With low slip that would give you 63 mph @ 6100rpm.

Doing a little research seems while the 250SS is a solid performer only giving up a few mph compared to merc and yamaha the 200SS reports on bass boats is its about 10mph slower at best. Not sure what the reasoning is for that.

The Zuke 200 is heavy for a 200 @ 518 pounds. That is in line with the 225-300 hp Mercuries.
Its also an inline 4 cylinder compared to the v6 that most 200's are built around.

I had a 125 Suzuki, 1986, and it ran good and was reliable. Just a little slower than the Mercury and Johnson's of the same time period.

Once it's broken in I can work on the best prop, right now it's an Idle Master.
