Texas outboard titles/taxes for USGC registered boat. - 12/06/20 06:17 PM

Hey everyone. I have a question and I cannot seem to find a straight answer with online searches.

I am trying to find out if one must title and pay taxes on an outboard motor in Texas if the vessel is USCG registered. The USCG site says that USCG vessels must comply with all state regulations, however ont he TPWD site it has USCG registered vessels as exempt for title requirements but says all outboard sales must pay tax.

A bit more detail...

I purchased a Texas titled INBOARD boat (and paid the taxes already) but I am going to convert it to outboard. The taxes on the motors will be quite high and while I am willing to pay them if I have to, I am wondering if I register with the USCG if that exempts me from doing so. If is does than Going USCG is a no brainer.

"outboard motors" have a stand alone State title (tax $$$) that will not mater if it (vessel) is or if is not USCG registered........... jmo.

inboard engines from my understanding are a part of the vessel

only an outboard has to be titled and registered and taxed separately. at 6.25% (state tax only)
