Soft spot repair idea....check it out

I had a small soft spot develop on the floor of my center console. There was a spot about one-foot square on each side of the console that was obviously soft and would move easily if you stepped on it. The fiberglass guy said I could bring it 3-days before Christmas and pick it up sometime in February. Well I want to keep using it now. My Dad had an idea. He recently had a guy raise some concrete slabs at his business. They use spray foam like for foundation leveling. We called the "foam guy". At first he didn't want to do it. He said the foam raises tons of concrete, not a piece of wood. After some haggling we assumed all risk for poking holes in lines or blowing up the deck. The guy came to the house and drilled four 3/4" holes on one side and 5 on the other where the soft spot was a little bigger. He pumped the foam in and as soon as it came out the hole he capped it. He said that should make the foam spread horizontally instead of it trying to push the floor up. The whole process took 10 minutes and he charged $100. Worked perfectly. The floor is rock solid and didn't come up too much at all. We coated the top of the holes where the foam was exposed with some fiberglass paste and removed any residue with acetone. If it hold, it may be permanent. Either way, I can continue to use the boat until December when I can evaluate if the fiberglass guy needs to take care of it. I just thought this idea might help someone out for a quick fix if you end up with a soft spot.

Using two part expanding closed cell foam was my first thought also

It may not be the cure, but will treat the symptoms

Be sure to drill a couple of smaller escape holes also so the foam has somewhere to go if it “over expands” to prevent warping or stress damage.
