Duplicate Evinrude Outboard Serial Numbers

I am looking at a 1985 Evinrude 140HP outboard but when I search TPWD using the 140HP serial number it comes back to a 1981 Evinrude 90HP outboard. I have seen pictures of both outboards plates and the serial numbers are identical but the model numbers are different showing the correct model/HP.

Is it common for Evinrude to duplicate serial numbers?
