Prop to pad

had some time sunday to look at where motor is sitting and prop height. ! its is pretty slow to get on plane . Iam 165lb, little tackle. 2 tanks about 30 gallons. With two guys irs forever. 1 Thing that that drives me is trimming up motor to put transom saver on , i have saver as short as it goes, the fitting for hyd steering hit transom.NOT good.2 so i measured prop to pad. It is 5.87 in. Kinda new to this but iam thinking should be around 3in. Boat is 95 P2 w/ 200 merc efi, runs good..I know there are a lot of guys on this forum that know ther way around boats. Hope someone has similar setup and can help/ advise . Thanks for any help.

I don't know that exact setup but 5.87" is way deep! I'd start about 3.5" and fine tune from there. Be sure you have the correct pitch prop or you will be doing it all over again....

Pantera 2 is never going to be a hole shot rocket. And your 200 has got to get some rpms before it wakes up. What you need is the correct prop venting to get what you need. You forgot to say what prop you’re running. So clue us in on that and proper advice can be shared.

prop is a Tempest Plus 25 pitch. the 200 is on 6inch cmc jackplate,currently manual cause pump is out. Thanks for the help

Ok, with your regular fishing load, you need to find optimum engine height first. Start it at 3 1/2" and go up 1/4" at a time until you lose speed/lift/water pressue and then back a click and you've got your motor height set correctly.

Then, holeshot...with your same load, start yanking PVS plugs until it blows out and put the last one back in. It might not be great, but it'll be the best you can.

That 25 might be a bit much prop, especially in the summertime, so when you have it set, what are your rpms? I want to be at 5,800 with that motor, if you're not getting that, you have too much wheel. But get it set right first and let's see what you ended up with.

Boat setup is simple, take it too far and bring it back, that is the only way you find just right.
