New Boat order?!?

New Boat order?!? - 05/30/20 10:03 PM

Have any of you ever ordered yourself a brand new boat? Just curious what a man can expect. Been dreaming of this day for a long time and just wanted to hash out any unforeseen details. Are different dealers different in the expectations? How much was due down at the time of ordering? When do payments start? Anything that you feel would help guide me in the process other than working closely with the dealership?? Thank you in advance for your time and suggestions!

Stay away from Evinrude motors. They just stopped all production.

I’ve bought a few. Not super expensive boats though. The most recent was a Tracker 175 with a 75 Mercury on it. Love the boat, now that it’s all set up the way I like it. I suggest that you go to boat sales places and discuss all of your questions. They want to sell as much as you want to buy.

One thing that needs to be said about buying a boat, new or used, is that if you’ve never had one, you don’t really know what you need or don’t need. This boat of ours is the fourth, and I think I got it right this time.

It might be worth your time to ask the forum folk what the needed basics are on a good fishing boat. Some of the responses might be worthwhile, and there will be stuff you haven’t thought of yet.

I ordered mine from Plano Marine. I knew what i wanted and got everything . It all depends on what kind of fishing you do as to what you need in your boat.
I fish Hybrid/Striper and White bass so i went with a center console. Also i know the water gets rough in the wind so i bought a big boat to handle the waves.
So Depending on what type of fishing you like to do will determine what type of boat you need.

It was a long time ago but I ordered a new Ranger from factory. I put 30% down but not required. I shopped 2 dealers and ended up buying from North Texas Marine in Gainsville. I dealt directly with owner. He showed me his cost and markup. Options were added at cost. I had 2 carppy boats so I knew exactly which brand I wanted. Also I knew I would keep for a while so I wanted new not used. Ordering from factory gives you the chance to get what you want. One of my demands was i wanted max HP. Financing was easy with good credit. I shopped multiple companies and ended up using Mercury Marine. I did not want to pay for the boat for the rest of my life so 5 year loan. I would try some small town dealers. North Texas beat the carp out of the Ranger dealer in Dallas. First thing is decide what you want and research brands. Decide how much you can afford taking in to account accessories and future maintenance and buy as much boat as you can.

I just ordered my first new one in 30 years. Feel free to pm any questions. Find the right dealer and the entire experience changes.

as the new Gambler dealer, i can tell you how we do the custom orders.

1) hash out all the details of the build, etc options and so on.
2) once the order is ready to submit to the manufacturer. we have to put a 25% deposit on the boat. and we require the same from the customer
3) as far as the financing, which is done after step 1 (if needed). the remaining balance from the finance company is typically paid when the boat
is delivered to the dealer and the TPWD paperwork is completed. 30-45 days after that is when your first payment is due to the finance company.

i'm also a Legend Craft alum boat dealer now. on those builds we only require a 1000.00 to 1500.00 deposit as that manufacturer does not
require a deposit from me. we only require the deposit to ensure the customer doesn't back out.

and of course all deposits are NOT refundable.

if you have any questions.. you should ask the boat dealer you intend to purchase through. honesty goes a long ways.
