200HP motor options - 03/03/20 10:16 PM

Well after a very eventful day on fork last Saturday during basschamps I have to buy a new motor for my boat. It’s a 1991 stratos 201pro and it currently has a 200hp merc on it but it’s locked up... insurance is going to cover the motor, so I’m on the lookout for a used 200 preferably 4 stroke Yamaha, Suzuki, or honda. Where is the best place to find a used one of these? Thanks guys I appreciate it.

good luck on used motor, need to stay with Mercury so do have to change out controls. Might call Capt. Kirks they sell loose motors.

I'd be really careful about a Honda, unless you're on the coast getting service is really dicey, and they aren't really a bass performance motor. The zuke is a pain in the rear to prop out right because the goofy gear ratio, so you might want to be a little picky about your choices.

How bad is it locked up? Have you had it looked at to see what it would cost to rebuild?
There is a guy just off 820 south of Lake Worth that is an excellent rebuilder. He generally re sleeves any older motors so yours would be almost like a new block when he gets done with it, if it is rebuildable.

He might even have one rebuilt and ready to go.

Check Duck River Marine in Tennessee. They ship rebuilt Merc's and have a top notch warranty.

MY AGENT (STATEFARM) SAID MY MOTOR IS ONLY WORTH $5000 ( 2006-200 OPTIMAX) CANT FIND A POWER HEAD FOR THAT OR REBUILT. PLEASE FIND MY COMMENTS AS JUST ASKING I WAS NOT TRYING TO HIJACK YOUR POST.

I have State Farm as well and I’m still waiting on final word but I do have all documentation showing motor was within original factory specs and all mechanic work etc. my agent valued the boat and motor in one instead of individual pricing

Yes flywheel won’t budge but the lower unit is bad as well

did you take the lower unit off to see if the flywheel turns freely ??? driveshaft and gears turn all the time in the gearcase along with the engine
