Lower unit

Lower unit - 02/06/20 06:15 PM

Had my lower unit lube oil changed and they found a couple of very very small metal slivers.

Is this something to be concerned about-is my lower unit due to fail down the road. Its an older boat so
not sure I want to fix it or just run it till the lower unit gives out. I know its hard to say when something is
gonna give out-just looking for some educated guesses.

The motor is a 2004 40hp 2 stroke Johnson.

All lower units are ticking time bombs.
Just run it. If you start having trouble getting it in gear . Change the oil again and if it loaded with metal shaving it probably time to rebuild.
Dont let the lower unit sit without oil.
