Small Water Aluminum Bass Boat - Recs and Dealer - 07/07/19 08:21 PM
Wondering if anyone has any thoughts or recommendations on a new bass boat. Has to fit certain criteria given the location of the water I will be fishing
- Total package length needs to be less than ~23 feet
- Beam needs to be less than ~8 feet
- Outboard will have to 25HP or less (lake regulation)
- want to have casting deck on now and stern (i.e. not a panfish model)
Looking at Tracker 175TXW, G3 Sportsman 16, Xpress X17, and Alweld.
Also would like to have power poles or talons
Any recommendations? Also if anyone has a recommendations on a good dealership in DFW / East Texas, would appreciate any thoughts there as well.
Thanks in advance.

I had a bass tracker and loved it. Just too small for windy days by myself. I’d recommend you find a nice used one as they really haven’t changed all that much over the years. Spot lock may be a better buy than power poles. Good luck

I just built the boat you are describing, except it has a 50 on it.
Still testing and tuning it actually.

There is one that should meet your needs for sale in the classified.

Check out a Havoc boat. I have a 17 foot stick steer with a 25hp motor. Does 23mph on GPS and floats in a puddle. Will post some pics....

Havoc Stick Steer 17', 6' beam. Got it from Greg Orr Marine in Texarkana. Daniel Godwin was the sales man. He was been great to deal with.

They have a new river rat model that has a bigger front and stern deck. Also you can customize them quite a bit. I stand and fish off the front of the boat 90% of the time. I'm 6'4", 300lbs and there is plenty of space although I sometimes wish I had a little bit more and put a leaning post in.

I went with Talons because with the shorter boat I didn't want hydraulics in the transom. Have been very happy with the talons. I do have I-pilot link on the terrova/bird setup. I use the spot lock some but use the talons most of the time. Got 3 seats because I fish with my children frequently. With the handheld remote on the terrova I can operate that and the talons from the middle seat (where I can bait hooks and referee fights over who is in the "better" spot)
