PICS - Keel repair from beaching - 06/27/18 01:48 AM
I just bought a used boat and the previous owner regularly beached it in the sand next to his local dock to move his truck and trailer on and off the ramp. He never had a keel guard and slowly rubbed off all the gelcoat. I'm trying to decide how to repair this before I install a keel guard over it. I don't care how it looks since it will be covered but I want to make sure it is sealed so no water is getting to the fiberglass.
This might be dumb.....but I was planning to use Rapid Set MarineTex over the exposed fiberglass area and then wet sand the patch and surrounding areas to smooth out some of the other scratches. Then let it set and cure for a couple weeks before installing a keel guard.
Any thoughts?
